Mounting Interface for Accessories
To expand the rifle functionality, various accessory mounting systems are used, which allow you to install secondary sighting devices: laser target designators, rangefinders, ballistic calculators, bubble levels, flashlights, etc.
The scope mount, as a place to install additional accessories, have several advantages:
- rigid fixation place compared to a quadrail
- convenient position of the attached accessory
- the ability to install the accessory parallel to the scope axis, even if the mount has a tilt
The main requirements for accessory mounting interfaces are to ensure reliability and repeatability of installation. That is, the attached accessory must hold well, not give displacement during operation and be positioned in the same place when re-installed.
Most mounting systems used to install various accessories on a scope mount are slot and stop based positioning systems, that is fixed using a threaded connection. The slot and stop based positioning system is designed to accurately orient the attached accessory in space and prevent it from shifting during operation and from the impact of recoil.
The main problems in manufacturing a slot and stop based positioning system for mounting accessories:
- very tight manufacturing tolerances, which must ensure a tight connection of the mounting elements
- the anodizing process (formation of an anodized surface layer) makes it difficult to meet technological tolerances for the fit of the mounting parts
- mounting interface hat using the cone principle (for example, 10-15°) have a much more complex processing technology or require special tools
The SMAI DAVIKA accessory mounting interface is a triangle-based mounting system that provides repeatable and reliable installation of attached accessories.
SMAI is a slot and stop based positioning system, which is formed based on triangles, and consists of the following elements:
- the part to which the accessory is to be attached contains a deep milling in the shape of a triangle - SLOT
- the attached part contains a smaller (relative to the deep milling) protruding triangle - STOP
Principle of operation
The positioning of the attached accessory occurs by shifting forward the "stop" triangle, until the side sides of both triangles are fully contacted, which provides the maximum contact area.
The features of SMAI system:
- Drepitable and reliable positioning
- the recoil energy is absorbed not by the screws of the threaded connection, but by the slot and stop based positioning system
Overall, SMAI is an advanced accessory mounting system, based on a slot and stop technology, that provides repeatable accessory installation and no displacement from recoil.\
